Our Top Picks For The Cork On A Fork Festival

We’re back with another blog post for you this week, this time giving you our recommendations on the best bits to see of this year’s Cork on A Fork Festival which will be happening this weekend on the 16th-20th August.

Cork is the culinary capital of Ireland (and generally the real capital according to us) and the food scene here is amazing. We have top-class chefs working in Cork City and county and restaurants suited to all tastes, so it’s no surprise that we’ve created a festival about food that we have yearly to celebrate all of that.

Between food tours and trails, community and garden events, cooking workshops and more there’s far too much going on for you to experience it all, so we’ve made some recommendations for you of the ones we’re most looking forward to so you can head into the city that weekend and soak up the atmosphere with a plan. On to the reccomendations!

1. A Flavour Of Princess Street: Weds 16th August Princess Street starting at 6pm in all venues

This is a great way to start off the festivities by attending this opening night which is an exclusive ticket only affair with food, drink music and craic. You can pick which restaurant you want to get the meals and drinks from beforehand by reserving it with the restaurant. The event is sponsored by Bibendum Wines and San Miguel and you can see a list of the participating restaurants on the city councils website by clicking here.

2. Histerical Histories: 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th August, Amicus on Paul Street from 7pm onwards

This experience is a laugh out loud dinner performance with local food and drink, live music and interaction with the actors who will be regailing you with hilarous tales of Corks 1500 year history throughout the evening. You’ll leave with a full belly and having learned how to speak Cork, if you think our accents in the college are strong you should hear this! You can book tickets on their website by clicking here and use the festival discount code HHcorkonafork for €2 off every adult ticket.

3. English Market Food History Tour And Tasting: Fri, 18 Aug, English Market at 15:00 – 17:00pm

This one is exiting as it’s the first ever tour of the English market given by the traders themselves. It’s going to be hosted by Regina Sexton who is UCC’s food and culinary historian so you’ll get plenty of stroies about the origins of the market and it’s history, while finding out about the produce from the traders. Some of those staff have been working in the English market their entire working lives and come from a long line of traders so this is sure to be a really interesting tour that will tell you a lot about Corks food culture. you can book this tour by clicking here.

4. The Ultimate Craft Beer Experience: Thurs 17th -Sun 20th Aug, Original 7 Brewery at 3pm

The amazing Micro Brewey Original 7 was founded in Ireland will be instantly recognizable to you if you’re familiar with the Franciscan Well. They are running a tour called “The Ultimate Craft Expereince” duing Cork On A Fork festival week where they will have a beer tasting, a pour your own stout event and an experience where the brewers will offer insights into the culture and heritage of brewing in the city centre. There will also be a cocktail bar, wood fired pizza and live music. Entrance fee is €15 per person and you can book it on their website by clicing here.

5. Festival Cooking Demo Marquee And Markets: Sat August 19th, Emmet Place at 9.30am-6pm

If you dont have time to go to the other events throughout the week but you still want a jam packed schedule of foodie tastings, talks and workshops, you should go to this event. This is a festival 100 seat style day of events in Emmet place outside Cork Opera House and Crawford Art Gallery.
