What’s on in Cork in January

Happy New Year! We’re back this year with a blog post for you about the best events on this January to start your year off with a bang!

1. Stand-up Comedy: January is a great month for stand-up comedy in the city. We have “The Best of Irish Comedy” night in the comedy club in the Roundy on the 5th, the Comedian of The Year competition Heat in Coughlan’s on the 9th, and a behind the scenes comedy night called “Work in Progress” also in the comedy club in the Roundy on the 10th. You can head to either the Roundy’s or Coughlan’s Instagrams to see updates on those by clicking here and here.

2. Little women’s Christmas Events: Every year, Ireland has a Celebration on the first weekend of January to celebrate all Irish women, the thinking behind it is that it’s normally Irish Mammy’s organising Christmas dinner and putting the magic into the holidays, so they deserve their own little Christmas for themselves. Usually, pubs clubs and hotels will have themed nights and ticketed events to celebrate. This year there are some great events on in Vienna Woods, The Pavillion Bar and Cyprus Avenue. You can click those links for more info.

3. Live Music: Finally, there’s plenty of live music with local and international bands and solo artists coming up in January in the city. You’ve got the Trad Sessions and Brewhouse Jazz in the Fran Well, Karen Underwood and The Hothouse Flowers are playing in the White Horse in Ballincollig, and the Liz Berries (Cranberries tribute band) are playing in Cyprus Avenue. You can take a look on the venue’s websites for more info and to grab tickets.

Cork has something special for everyone this January. Embrace the city’s lively spirit and make the most of these exciting events that promise to kick off your year on a high note.
