Our IELTS Preparation Course is designed for students who wish to prepare for the internationally recognised IELTS exam. IELTS (International Language Testing System) assesses your ability to use academic English and is a key entry requirement for students aiming to study at an English-speaking university.
Our programme caters for learners across a wide score range, from lower-band (4.5–5.5) to higher-band (6.0–7.5) IELTS levels. The course focuses on strengthening your overall English language skills while providing comprehensive preparation for the IELTS exam format. Lessons concentrate on both the Academic and General Training modules, as required, and place strong emphasis on effective test-taking strategies. Through integrated exam practice, you will develop the skills and confidence needed to respond successfully to exam tasks and maximise your IELTS score.
The CEC experience begins before students even arrive in Cork. Our online English level test confirms each learner’s current level and ensures placement in the class that will best support their progress.

What type of activities can I look forward to?
We endeavour to cater for most tastes when it comes to activities, so we provide a wide choice, ranging from cultural visits to historic places of interest, to sports and lively night out. We want to make sure that you enjoy yourselves while you’re studying.
How will I get to the school?
All of our accommodation is either within easy walking distance of the school or within easy reach by public transport.
Where is the school located?
The school is located right in the heart of Cork, on the banks of the river Lee, but we’ll keep you too busy to admire the view! It is also within close walking distance of Cork’s main bus terminus and railway station.
Who else will be studying there?
We have students from all over the world studying with us, which adds greatly to the friendly atmosphere. In 2024 we had 63 different nationalities study with us!
Can I change my accommodation if I don’t like it?
Yes, our aim is to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible during your stay in Cork. If you have any issue with your accommodation we can arrange for you to speak with our dedicated accommodation office to find a solution.
What type of accommodation can I expect?
What type of accommodation would you like? We have a full range of options from living with a host family to self-catering apartments and hotels.
Will I be able to use the internet and email?
Yes, we have high speed Wi-Fi available for all students in each of our school buildings.
Will I get a certificate at the end of my course?
Yes, we’re a fully accredited and recognised school. You’ll receive a certificate of attendance at the end of your programme stating your exit level, course title and number of weeks. Don’t forget to get your photo taken with your certificate on your last day!
