What’s on in Cork in August

As summer kicks into high gear, Cork City is buzzing with culture and activity and there are plenty of events that you can go to experience it all. The three main events happening in August are our Pride Festival, our Cork on a Fork Festival and Cork Heritage Open Day. We would recommend going to all of them if you can as they all offer a unique experience of Cork through the lens of our history, our people, our food and our culture. For this week’s blog post we wanted to tell you about all three to make sure you have an amazing August in Cork!

1. Cork Pride festival: Cork LGBT+ Pride Festival- July 30th-August 6th

As the first country to legalize gay marriage by popular vote, we take our pride festivals seriously all over the country, especially in the rebel county. The theme of this year’s festival is “30 years on” marking 30 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Irish law. This festival is known for being fun and flamboyant, but it is also hugely important to us as a country as it has become a beacon of hope over the years and a testament to the power of the unity of the Irish people. You can learn about this year’s event on their website by clicking here, or keep tabs on their Instagram for upcoming events this weekend below.

2. Cork on a Fork – August 16th to August 20th

Calling all foodies! Cork City is transforming into a gastronomic paradise during the annual Food and Drink Festival. Prepare your taste buds for a journey as local chefs, artisan producers, and food vendors come together to highlight the best culinary delights the region has to offer. Cork is the food capital of Ireland, and you will see why during this festival. It’s 5-day programme with more than 100 tasty events and experiences to saviour throughout Cork City, you can see their full programme on their website by clicking here, or follow their Instagram to get updates on different events happening during the festival.

3. Cork Heritage Open Day – August 12th

Step back in time and discover the rich history of Cork City during the much-anticipated Heritage Open Day. This event lets visitors and locals alike explore some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, museums, and historic buildings, many of which are not usually accessible to the public but will be open on this day alone. Guided tours, interactive exhibits, and cultural demonstrations make this day a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in Cork’s fascinating heritage. You can follow different events happening on the day by clicking here, they will be putting the 2203 programme up on their site and their Instagram page in the next week.

These events are just a taste of what Cork City has to offer this August. Whether you are into music, food, history, film, or simply looking for a fun day out, there is something for everyone in this lively Irish city. So, mark your calendars and get ready to experience the best of Cork’s culture and entertainment.
