Bantry House & Glengarriff
Bantry House and Garden is a stately home situated on the Wild Atlantic Way overlooking Bantry Bay in the southwest of Ireland. The House has been home to the White family since 1739 and was opened to the public in 1946. There is an important private collection of furniture and objects of art. The Estate is a popular wedding and events venue and recently hosted the wedding reception of celebrity Graham Norton. The gardens, as we see them today, have gone from creation, through neglect (from 1930’s-1970’s) to restoration (which began in 1997).
Glengarriff, the name comes from “An Gleann Garbh” – the rugged glen – which comes from the rugged beauty of the mountains and wooded valleys surrounding the village. Situated between mountains and overlooking beautiful Bantry Bay magnificent views of the Caha Mountains can be seen from the numerous viewpoints along the roads by the coastline or winding along the steep-sided valleys.
