In English, if you want to follow a verb with another action, you must use a gerund or infinitive.

There are certain verbs that can only be followed by one or the other, and these verbs must be memorized.

There are some verbs that can be followed by infinitive or gerund with very little or no difference in meaning but there are other verbs that can be followed by both with a very different meaning.

There are 6 different groups of verbs in total!
