In our experience, you’re bound to have lots of questions about us, so we’ve put together some of the most frequently asked questions here. If there’s anything we haven’t covered, then please don’t hesitate to contact us, either by WhatsApp, email, or phone.

WHAT TYPE OF ACTIVITIES CAN I LOOK FORWARD TO?

We endeavour to cater for most tastes when it comes to activities, so we provide a wide choice, ranging from cultural visits to historic places of interest, to sports and lively night out. We want to make sure that you enjoy yourselves while you’re studying. You can view our current and past student activities right here.

HOW WILL I GET TO THE SCHOOL?

All of our accommodation is either within easy walking distance of the school or within easy reach by public transport.

WHERE IS THE SCHOOL LOCATED?

The school is located right in the heart of Cork, on the banks of the river Lee, but we’ll keep you too busy to admire the view! It is also within close walking distance of Cork’s main bus terminus and railway station.

WHO ELSE WILL BE STUDYING THERE?

We have students from all over the world studying with us, which adds greatly to the friendly atmosphere. So far in 2023 we have had over 40 different nationalities study with us already!

CAN I CHANGE MY ACCOMMODATION IF I DON’T LIKE IT?

Yes, our aim is to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible during your stay in Cork. If you have any issue with your accommodation we can arrange for you to speak with our dedicated accommodation office to find a solution.

WHAT TYPE OF ACCOMMODATION CAN I EXPECT?

What type of accommodation would you like? We have a full range of options from living with a host family to self-catering apartments and hotels.

WILL I BE ABLE TO USE THE INTERNET AND EMAIL?

Yes, we have high speed Wi-Fi available for all students in each of our school buildings.

WILL I GET A CERTIFICATE AT THE END OF MY COURSE?

Yes, we’re a fully accredited and recognised school. You’ll receive a certificate of attendance at the end of your programme stating your exit level, course title and number of weeks. Don’t forget to get your photo taken with your certificate on your last day!

HOW CAN I REGISTER FOR AN ENGLISH COURSE?

Registration is very simple: just fill a booking form or apply directly through the website, and we’ll take care of everything else.

HOW CAN I PAY FOR THE COURSE?

We have a range of payment options: you can pay by credit card, bank transfer or bank draft. Just choose whichever is easiest for you.

WHEN DO THE COURSES START?

It depends on your programme, our morning courses begin at 08:40, afternoon courses begin at 13:45 and any additional afternoon classes begin at 14:00.

HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE IN MY CLASS?

The numbers depend on your chosen programme. In morning classes there is a maximum of 12 students per class and in afternoon classes it is a maximum of 15 students. On average you will meet 5/6 different nationalities in each class.

HOW MANY COURSE LEVELS DO YOU HAVE?

We offer 7 course levels. So, whatever you level of English, we can help.

I’M NOT SURE WHAT MY LEVEL OF ENGLISH IS, HOW CAN I FIND OUT?

Most people have a good idea of their level of English but we are always on hand if you need help – just call us. Alternatively, you can do our sample Online Test. In any event, every student is assessed before arrival with our dedicated academic level so that we can access your current level, strengths and areas for improvement.

WHAT COURSE LEVELS DO YOU HAVE?

We have course levels from A2 to C1.

WHAT COURSES DO YOU HAVE?

Our most popular courses are General English and Exam Preparation, but we have the facilities to teach other types of English too. Business English or Military English for example, which can be done in a group course format, or in the form of one-to-one tuition. You can see a full list of our courses on our course page here.

CAN I PREPARE FOR AND TAKE AN EXAM?

Yes, you can. We offer a few different exam preparation courses; our main ones would be IELTs and Cambridge. You can organise to do your exam and do the preparation course in the lead up to it. We can also help you to prepare for any of the other exams we hold also such as OET, TIE or TOEIC in the form of one-to-one lessons or self-study programmes. CEC is an official testing centre for the following exams : Cambridge, IELTS, OET, TOEIC, TOLES and Language Cert. If you are doing a study and work programme with us, the exam at the end of the course is a part of your visa so it’s especially important that you get that exam organised with plenty of time to spare.

CAN I BOOK ACCOMMODATION WITH YOU?

You certainly can, you’ve got two main options for accommodation. You can stay with a local host family, or you can stay in self-catering apartment accommodation; you can book both options through us. As a note, we only provide accommodation to our own students while they are studying with us. WHAT ARE THE FEES?

That depends on which course you’d like to do, and how long you’d like to stay. Contact us and we can come back to you with a detailed quotation based on your specific needs. View our complete fees right here.

HOW DO I BOOK?

You can book a course via our Book Now sections. If you’re already in Cork you can pop in to us and fill out a form at the reception desk with us. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about making a booking with us.

DO YOU HAVE STUDY & WORK PROGRAMMES?

Yes we do have a 25-week Study & Work programme to suit non-EU students who are are looking to apply for the 33-week (8 month) study and work visa in Ireland. You can find information on applying for a visa by clicking here. If you are a non-EU student, you must pay all of your courses fees in full and receive an official letter of invitation before travelling to Ireland. As a note, this course involves some other fees like medical insurance and PEL insurance. View our 25 week Study & Work programme options here.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH CLASS I WILL BE IN?

The class you will be placed in depends on your current level of English. We find out your current level by sending you out an online placement test about two weeks before you come to study with us. The test will take about an hour, and we will then be able to place you in the correct class to match your level.

WHAT ARE THE CLASS TIMES?

We have two different classes that happen in the college Monday to Friday and those are morning and afternoon classes. The timetable for both of those are below:

Morning course 20 hours per week:

08.40am-10.40am Classes

10.40am-11.00am Coffee break

11.00am-13.00pm Classes

Afternoon course 15 hours per week:

13.45pm-15.45pm Classes

15.45pm-16.00pm Coffee break

16.00pm-17.00pm Classes

WHAT TYPES OF COURSES DO YOU HAVE?

We have a range of different Junior courses available in our Host Family Centre or Residential, most run in the summer months and are as below:

  • English + Golf with Fota Golf Academy ​
  • English + Horse-Riding ​
  • English + Rugby with Munster Rugby Club​
  • English + Football with Valencia CF ​
  • English + STEAM with Steam Education
  • Young Adult Programme (16 – 19)

WHAT ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS DO YOU HAVE?

For the accommodation, our junior students can stay with either a local host family or in one of our residential centres where they will be fully supervised with live-in leaders at all times.

WHAT ARE THE FEES AND WHAT’S INCLUDED?

The Junior programmes come in a package price including classes, activities, excursions, meals and accommodation. Feel free to visit our course price page or junior section for more.

ARE THE COURSES FULLY SUPERVISED?

Yes, all our junior courses are fully supervised at all times. Our junior students are taken to and from each activity and to their classes by our dedicated activity leaders and they are also supervised in their accommodation centres either by our live in residential staff or by their host family.

WHEN DO THE COURSES NORMALLY TAKE PLACE?

Our dedicated Junior courses take place in the summer month of July. This can vary year to year so it’s best to contact us as soon as you decide you would like to book a course to receive the most up to date information. Our Mini-Stay programme courses run in the autumn and winter months and our High School programme runs in the academic year.
