What Happens on Your First Day at CEC?

Starting at a new school in a new country can feel a little daunting, but at Cork English College, we do everything we can to make your first day enjoyable, informative and stress-free. Here’s what you can expect when you arrive.

Welcome to CEC!

Your first day begins with an induction session, where you’ll be welcomed by our team and introduced to everything you need to know about life at CEC.

We’ll tell you about the school, explain how your classes work, introduce you to Cork city, and show you our weekly activities programme. You’ll also receive plenty of recommendations for must-visit attractions, restaurants, cafés and day trips so you can start exploring straight away.

By the end of the induction, you’ll already feel much more at home.

Meet Your Class

After the induction, you’ll be taken to your classroom where you’ll meet your teacher and classmates.

Our classes are made up of students from all over the world, creating an international and friendly learning environment. Once everyone has settled in, it’s time to get stuck into your first English lesson!

Break Time

At 10:40am, it’s time for a well-earned coffee break.

This is one of the best opportunities to meet students from other classes, practise your English and make new friends. Don’t forget to try our coffee machine, it’s definitely one of our students’ favourite spots in the school!

Meet the Team

You’ll quickly get to know our friendly staff, who are always happy to chat during breaks and answer any questions you may have.

If you need help with anything, Olga, our receptionist, is always on hand to assist you with any queries, whether they’re about your course, accommodation or life in Cork.

And if you’re looking for the best pub recommendations in the city, Sonny is always happy to point you in the right direction!

Lunch Time

Most students finish their morning classes at 1:00pm and have the rest of the afternoon to explore Cork or take part in activities.

If you’re studying one of our intensive courses with afternoon lessons, you’ll return at 2:00pm to continue learning.

Activities Every Day

Learning doesn’t stop when class finishes!

Every week, we organise a packed programme of paid and free activities, giving you the chance to discover Cork, make friends and practise your English outside the classroom.

From walking tours and cultural visits to sports, social events and weekend excursions, there’s always something happening.

Explore the School

Before you head home, take a look around the college.

Our noticeboards and digital displays are updated every week with:

  • The latest activities programme
  • Local recommendations
  • Upcoming events
  • Student information and announcements

They’re a great way to discover what’s happening during your stay.

Welcome to the CEC Family

Your first day is all about helping you settle in, meet new people and feel confident from the moment you arrive.

Before long, you’ll know your classmates, recognise our friendly staff, have your favourite coffee order, and start feeling right at home in Cork.

We can’t wait to welcome you to CEC!
