ABOUT CEC

We are an award-winning English school in Ireland founded by Valery Cullen back in 1978. To this day we are still a family-run school with Valery’s son Marc now in charge.

The school started with international junior summer camps in 1978 based in Douglas Community School which is still one of our Summer Junior Centres to this day. In the early days, Cork English College was known as Language Activity Holidays (LAH).

Our first adult centre opened on St. Patricks Quay in 1994, and Language Activity Holidays became Cork English College. As CEC grew and welcomed more and more students to Cork, we purchased a second building on St. Patricks Hill, five years later, the school acquired our main building on St. Patricks Bridge which is now our HQ in the heart of Cork City.

ASIDE FROM QUALITY SERVICE,

We take immense pride in the professional service and personal contact we provide to each of our students and partners. In over 46 years we have welcomed close to 70,000 adult & junior students to Cork for the CEC experience.

CEC is recognised by the Department of Education and Skills for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language. We are also members of Quality English, Marketing English in Ireland and Select Ireland to name a few. We are a fully accredited and award-winning English school in Ireland and have been named “Best Language School” at the Education Awards in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Apart from organising language programmes for adults and juniors, CEC organises all elements of your experience in Ireland. We arrange the course, transfers to and from the airport, accommodation, social activities, and excursions.

THE CEC EXPERIENCE

The school has 3 historic buildings in the centre of Cork City catering for over 300 adult students, and two summer junior centres in the suburbs for over 700 students. We are the exam experts offering preparation & delivery of the Cambridge, IELTS, OET, TOLES, Trinity, TIE & TOEIC exams.

Learning with CEC is much more than simply taking classes in an English school in Ireland; it is an overall experience to enjoy and learn from. We place a lot of emphasis in getting to know all our students and fostering a friendly enjoyable atmosphere within the school. Cork is a fantastic city in which to learn & experience English and to explore the island of Ireland.
