Spike Island is a remote monastery in the Celtic Sea, a fortress built to defend an empire as it was used as an island prison, once the largest in the world!

A trip to Spike Island is a trip through 1300 years of Irish history — as well as a chance to experience beautiful nature and wildlife in a wild Irish setting. Departing from the historic and scenic seaside town of Cobh

The boat trip to the island will take in the stunning views of Cobh from the water and we will keep an eye out for seals, dolphins, and seabirds along the way! We will spend 3.5 hours on the island where we will learn about the 1300-year history of Spike Island, as well as explore the island’s former dwellings and the fort’s atmospheric prison cells, impressive military fortifications, internal tunnels and passages.
