Cork Stamp Festival 2024: May 16th-18th
The Cork Stamp Festival is back this year and is better than ever! This weekend Cork will see an amazing amalgamation of 30 art, design and craft events, exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, screenings, and markets. It’s organised in conjunction with Benchspace, Cork Craft & Design, Sample Studios and Shandon Art Studios and will take place mostly in Triskel Art Centre, along with some other creative spaces around the city.
This is a weekend not to miss if you’re a Cork creative, we’ve got some ideas below on some fun events you can go to with your family and friends 😊
Top 5 Events Not to Miss
Made in Cork Market:
This market will be running on Friday, May 17th from 2 pm and for the full day on Saturday, May 18th from 10 am and is a one-stop shop for everything handicraft. If you’re visiting Cork, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to get a souvenir that supports the local economy, and to meet some of the most prominent members of Corks cultural core, our artists, and artisans. If you’re interested, you can see a list of the stands that will be there by clicking here.
Make your STAMP, Drop-in Tote Bag Screen Printing:
Learn the basics of screen printing with Elize de Beer from Sample-Studios and print your very own tote bag! This event is on Friday, May 17th from 4-6 pm. Our own students are going to be there too as part of our activity programme, so if you’re a CEC student you can sign up to go on our online learning platform by clicking here. If you’re not a CEC student, you can just drop in and don’t need to book ahead.
Introduction to DJing and Music Production with Stevie G:
This workshop is an amazing opportunity for teens and young people to meet one of Corks OG DJ’s Stevie G and learn all about Djing and music production. This workshop is for 10–17-year-olds with parents present and kids can see in real time how Stevie mixes, edits, beat-matches and inserts classic samples into his music and shows. This workshop will be on Saturday the 16th at 11 am-12.15 pm, and can buy tickets on the Cork Stamp website by clicking here.
Learn how to do Straw Craft:
This workshop is all about learning how to get, grow and prepare straw, and the basics on some interesting craft techniques using the material. You’ll be making some small straw items like a harvest bow, plaited bracelet, and a star. This event will be on Saturday between 2 and 5 pm, its €35 to join and you can buy tickets on the website by clicking here.
Zine Making Workshop:
Our final recommendation will also be hosted by Elize de Beer is this Zine making workshop. Zine is short for Fanzine or Magazine and is basically a handmade self-published book. Elize will be showing adults and accompanied teens how to make their very own books and discover the creative empowerment of self-publication. This workshop will be on Saturday the 18th at 5 pm, its free entry but spaces are limited so you should buy a ticket by clicking here.
