Cork Harbour Festival 2024
The Cork Harbour Festival is back this June from the 1st to the 10th in Cork and promises to be another amazing weekend for the city. This festival is a journey through the history and culture of one of the world’s largest natural harbours. You will have the chance to witness traditional boat building, participate in rowing competitions, and even try your hand at sailing.
The schedule is jam packed as always, and it’s impossible to see it all so here are just some ideas on events we think you should take part in for this year’s festival!
1. Kayaking with the Phoenix Kayak Club June 7th
You can learn how to Kayak for beginners with the Phoenix Kayak Club on June 7th for only €15. You should wear clothes that you’re happy to get wet and meet the Kayak club at their clubhouse where you will be kayaking on river running kayaks. Kayaks, helmets and floatation devices will be available to you on the day, so you don’t need to bring anything with you except a towel. You can book this one by clicking here.
2. Ocean To City race- An Rás Mór June 8th
Ocean to City is Ireland’s largest multi-craft rowing and paddling race, attracting some 500 participants from Ireland, the UK, The Netherlands and beyond. Around 200 boats of all shapes, types and sizes will be competing and there will be entertainment to be had at all of the vantage points along the way like Cobh, Blackrock and the city centre. The race finishes at Lapps Quay a 15.30 where there will be music, food and family entertainment to celebrate another successful festival.
3. Sea Shanty concert with the Molgoggers June 8th
What would a maritime festival be without a sea shanty concert? The Molgoggers are gracing us with a how again this year. This amazing buoy band from Cobh will be playing in Nano Nagle on June 8th between 4 and 5.3 pm singling sea shanty and maritime tunes galore. It is a free event as usual, but Nano Nagle fills quick as we know so you need to book tickets for it by clicking here.
4. Cork Harbour Storytelling with The Gab June 9th
You can now join Gab’s montly storytelling night on the 9th of June at 4pm for a mixture of Cork Harbour tales, River Lee stories and Celtic Sea songs, through the lens of blend of song, story and poetry in Nano Nagle place. This event is free to enter and no booking required.
5. Wildlife and coastal exploration with Cork Sea Safari June 9th
This tour is a bit on the pricier end at €55, but totally worth it if you’re a wildlife lover. Cork Sea Safari will take you on a boat out west through Robert’s Cove, Nohoval & Newfoundland Bay in search for a variety of marine bird life, Grey Seals & Basking Sharks. You might even see some dolphins on the way back! This one departs from Hugh Coveney Pier, Crosshaven at 10.30 and will be available on the 1st, 2nd, 8th & 9th of June.
