3 Festivals in Cork in August
August is a vibrant month in Cork, filled with festivities and cultural celebrations that highlight the city’s rich heritage and lively community spirit. Whether you’re a local or visiting from afar, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here are four must-do activities in Cork this August:
1. Cork Pride Festival (July 30 – August 6)
The Cork Pride Festival is a week-long celebration of love, diversity, and inclusion, running from July 30 to August 6. This colourful event features parties, workshops, Drag race events in the evenings, family-friendly activities and of course the Sunday Pride Parade. Cork Pride Week holds significant importance for the city of Cork, primarily due to its vibrant and large LGBTQ+ community. This annual event serves as a powerful symbol of inclusivity, acceptance, and celebration of diversity within the city.
Highlight: Mockie Ah Pride Party
Apart from our parade of course you shouldn’t miss the Mockie Ah Pride Party, on Sunday August 4th in the Pav featuring performances by Bambie Thug our 2024 Euro Vision star and stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race. This exciting event promises an evening of fabulous entertainment, music, and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
For more details, visit the Cork Pride website.
2. Cork On a Fork Festival (August 14-18)
Cork is the food capital of Ireland, and the Cork On A Fork Festival is a food lover’s dream, taking place from August 14 to 18. This festival showcases Cork’s culinary scene, with events ranging from food trails and tastings to cooking demonstrations, sustainability talks related to food and agriculture in Ireland and street food markets.
Highlight
One highlight of this festival that we highly recommend you go to is the Cork Food History Guided Tour at 10.00am – 12.00pm, Thursday 15th August, Cork City Centre. This is a walking tour of Cork city with commentary on the food and drinks history of the city going back to Viking days, where you can visit the English Market, Butter Museum, and the Crawford Art Gallery with stops for food tasting and chat. It’s 59 pp and you can book it by clicking here. For more information, visit the Cork On A Fork Festival website.

3. Heritage Week (August 17-24)
Heritage Week, running from August 17 to 24, is a celebration of Cork’s rich history and cultural heritage. The week features a variety of events, including guided tours, historical reenactments, lectures, and exhibitions. You can visit historical sites, participate in interactive workshops, and engage with local historians to gain a deeper understanding of Cork’s past. Heritage Week is a wonderful way to connect with the city’s history and appreciate its cultural significance.
Highlight
The best part of the week in our opinion is the Heritage open day where over 35 of Cork’s landmark buildings open their doors to the public for one day only, you would not normally have the opportunity to see inside a lot of these buildings so we highly recommend scouting the city that day and soaking up as much of Corks history as you can on that day.
For event schedules and details, check out the Heritage Week section on Cork City’s website.
